The 138th Anniversary of the Charleston Earthquake

Saturday, August 31 was the 138th anniversary of an earthquake that shook Charleston and left devastating damage. It is often referred to as “The Forgotten Earthquake.”

If you’ve read my novel, THE THING ABOUT HOME, you know that day and the devastation that came with it is mentioned in the story. During that week, my character, Elijah Black, came home to some equally as devastating news.

I’ve written my last two novels, BITTER AND SWEET and THE THING ABOUT HOME with a dual timeline. One of the things I enjoy about writing in the historical timeline is incorporating history like this, especially since it’s largely either unknown or has been as they say…forgotten.
